Our History

40+ Years of Pioneering

From displaying the first Nepali text on a computer to building humanoid robots — every decade marks a new frontier in Nepal's technological history.

1983

First Devanagari Computing in Nepal

Muni Bahadur Sakya demonstrated the first-ever Nepali-language display on a CP/M-based microcomputer, showing the National Anthem in Devanagari script. A historic moment that opened the door to Nepali computing. Awarded the Science Award in December 1983 for this achievement.

1984 – 1985

High Tech Pioneer Founded

Established High Tech Pioneer Pvt. Ltd. at Dillibazar, Kathmandu — Nepal's first commercial computer hardware company. Began manufacturing computer components and accessories, laying the foundation for Nepal's domestic technology industry.

1995

Sun Moon Computer Industry — Nepal's First Computer Manufacturer

Opened Sun Moon Computer Industry, Nepal's first company for manufacturing computer cards commercially. Took hardware production to a fully commercial scale, reducing Nepal's dependency on imported computer components.

2005

RONAST Award for Science & Technology

Received the prestigious Royal Nepal Academy of Science & Technology (RONAST) award for outstanding and sustained contributions to science and technology development in Nepal.

May 17, 2006

Nepal's First Supercomputer Demonstrated

For the first time in Nepal, a supercomputer with 16 nodes was publicly demonstrated. The system ran on open-source OS with OpenMosix and Oscar, using sixteen computers in a cluster configuration — a national milestone for high-performance computing in Nepal.

2016

ICT Pioneer Award

Muni Bahadur Sakya received the ICT Pioneer Award in recognition of his lifetime contributions to Nepal's information and communications technology sector and his role in shaping the nation's digital landscape.
